5. Non-discriminating Application Management
On 18 August 2006, the German General Equal Treatment Act (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz), became effective. This law affects numerous areas of personnel work, from designing advertisements to conducting interviews, managing rejections and even drafting a company’s organisational structures.
The General Equal Treatment Act aims at preventing discrimination of applicants and employees regarding
- gender
- age
- race / ethnicity
- religion
- sexual identity
- disability.
Simplified suing procedures and shifting of the burden of proof have considerably increased the risk of lawsuits being filed against a company.
To make sure that all applications be treated according to the terms of the General Equal Treatment Act, personal total has developed a comprehensive application management system, which encompasses:
- A non-discriminating elaboration of job specifications and candidates’ qualification profile;
- The use of sources and job advertisements in line with the terms of the General Equal Treatment Act;
- Conducting interviews according to statutory provisions. If necessary, we use aptitude tests to underpin our shortlisting;
- Rejection management and documentation thereof complying with statutory provisions.
